Nadya & Ryan’s Brooklyn Engagement Session
It all began when Nadya posted in a photographer facebook group looking for her a photographer for her wedding at the Basilica Hudson this fall. Normally, hundreds of photographers comment and it becomes pointless. This time, we said what the hell, let’s comment and see what happens. Weeks go by, and nothing. We chalked it off and figured nothing would come of it as usual.
THEN, an email from Nadya appeared in our inbox about how she absolutely loved our work over all of the others that commented on her post. We were like “Hell Yeah, that’s so awesome to hear!” Her and Ryan wanted us to be not only their wedding photographer but also their wedding videographer! YAY! The Basilica Hudson has been on our list of venues that we are dying to shoot at.
We chatted on the phone and instantly connected with them. Especially since they just went to an Apex Twin concert…not many people that we have come across have even heard of them. Tom had licensed one of Apex Twin‘s songs for his independent feature called The Fourth Dimension. They also love The Cure and had recently saw them when they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Cure holds a special place in our hearts as our first dance at our wedding was to “Pictures of You.”
Then we met up with them last week for their engagement session in Brooklyn. Nadya works for Plated and she directs photography/videography shoots for a living for Plated. Therefore, she knows what she is looking for and is up for anything creative which is pretty awesome for us! They had it all mapped out starting with their old hangout called Moloko.
After hanging out for a drink and some photos at Moloko, we headed to their apartment to pick up their super cute pup named Maceo. He’s a rescue pup which is always near and dear to our hearts as we’re all about our love for animals. Then, we took a stroll around the block in their neighborhood. Brooklyn streets are always awesome especially when you find a cool store with a bright pop of color. Maceo was so awesome and posed for the pics!
We said our goodbyes to Maceo who was the sweetest puppy even though he chewed the chair in their apartment before we arrived 🙂 Then, we headed to another part of town to check out this awesome record shop called Second Hand Records. It had the best lighting and an all around cool vibe with tons of plants.
Nadya and Ryan are the sweetest and invited us out to dinner and drinks after the engagement session was over. We were so happy that they asked us! Hanging out with them was awesome as we got to know them even better! We had the best time with them! We didn’t get back to our place in PA until 2am! haha! We can’t wait for their wedding at the Basilica. We know it’s going to be the best time with these two and we are so excited to capture their day!

I LOVE this Brooklyn Engagement session! Great job showcasing how engagement sessions can be more just pretty photos, and can completely capture a lifestyle.
